A QUARTER of Aussies have been left red-faced after sending a personal email or text message to the wrong person.
Our love of mobile phones and the internet has left us exposed to upsetting or embarrassing misunderstandings.
A survey has found 34 per cent of people have been left distressed after misreading an email or SMS.
And one in four has flicked a very personal message to an unintended recipient.
The findings may explain why 86 per cent of us also rate catching up face-to-face as the best way of keeping in touch.
Relationships Australia vice-president Anne Hollonds said technology was one-dimensional and a lot could be lost in translation.
But she said that didn’t make technology the enemy when it comes to keeping in touch.
The survey also found we continue to find it hard to find time for relationships.
